kids against racism

Although reports or complaints of racial harassment in your school maybe rare or non-existent, that does not mean your school is free from racial harassment. Remember harassment in school can be far more prevalent than outside school, and research tend to show that pupils often do not report the incidents they are facing for a variety of reasons, including the belief by the victim that reporting the incident will only lead to more incidents.

Racial harassment is schools can be non-verbal, verbal, written, graphic, sexual or physical behavior that targets someone because of their race or national origin. It can be blatant, subtle, a single incident or many incidents. However, the harassment is not necessarily about race, color or ethnicity. It is about intimidation, control and the attempt to deny the victim equality. Its intention is unwanted and aims to cause harm.

The school is an important part of the social fabric of the local community and therefore has a responsibility to deal with social issues from that community. Furthermore the school has a number of legal duties to tackle racial harassment.
